Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal build up of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain.

Signs & Symptoms :-
  • Rapid increase in head size and unusually large head
  • Bulge on the head
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Problems with balance
  • Slowing or loss of developmental progress like walking or talking

Causes :-
  • Inherited Genetic
  • Developmental Disorders
  • Complications of premature birth
  • Infection during pregnancy

Examination :-
  • Neuro-psychological examination
  • MRI , CT scan, Ultrasound
  • Spinal tap (Lumbar puncture)
  • Intracranial pressure
  • Fundoscopic examination

Physiotherapy Treatment :-
  • Flexibility exercises incorporating stretching and range of movement exercises
  • Strength, power, and endurance training
  • Gait training
  • Improving awareness of posture
  • Self-care and daily management at home
  • Use of assistive devices and mobility equipment if necessary
